These are poor standards and no one has presented ANY evidence that these are better or superior. In fact the evidence is just the opposite. And the dangers of Common Core beyond the standards and the privacy and data intrusion it presents should be enough to kill it irregardless of the standards themselves. While no one is against better standards, these are not and surely not the way to do it. Do you object to multiplication in 3rd grade? Is it waiting until grade 7 to teach probability instead of starting in kindergarten like we did under the old CT standards? For the past 3 years, my 9 year old has actually been learning and has been challenged by the work. That is pretty much what I want as a parent. And as an educator, I am not a fan of testing -- but seeing the tools available now (translations with the click of a mouse), compared to on the CAPT when English learners sat with a paper-based dictionary and took all day to take a 60 minute test. If that took 7 extra days to confirm, so what? I don't know why people continue to defend the percentages of students entering non-credit bearing courses in college by saying that what we were doing before was working just fine. It wasn't.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2720621212832274655.post-86999748326061114522014-03-29T09:29:39.574-04:002014-03-29T09:29:39.574-04:00Let's face it. A well-tilled field for nanny-state brainwashing like Common Core. Even "active parents" in public schools (including "charter schools") have no chance. What's more important--our kids or second incomes?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
