Hi there, right wing extremist here (at least according to the manly Janet Napolitano and the Dept. of Hopeless Security) again...
Can I give a piece of advice to all the conservatives who get into arguments/debates with liberals? Well I am going to anyways...it is very simple!
Liberals like to paint conservatives who want smaller taxes and less government into a corner by making an emotional argument that you are cruel, mean, racist, or whatever. You cannot sink into this type of debate!! So don't do it...
Instead, use a coherent objective Constitutional argument for all of it. I personally carry around a pocket version of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence. It is an incredibly valuable tool to reference and read whenever you can or when you have a question on what the federal government is and is not empowered to do. You can get on of these by going to http://www.catostore.org/index.asp?fa=ProductDetails&pid=144278-A Spend the $5--it's worth it.
Getting back to my original point, pick just about ANY liberal policy at the national level--including the entire Obama budget. Also, just about every "Department of..." bureaucracy. They are all unconstitutional and should all be eliminated and the power returned to the states and the people.
Let's take health care for instance. Liberals want a European style, high coverage, low quality rationed plan that will ruin the best health care delivery system in the world (more detail on this in a future post) that will cause people to die waiting for procedures, chase quality doctors out of the industry, fail to recruit new high quality doctors, bankrupt hospitals even faster as we are forced to pay for care of illegal aliens before citizens--oh and by the way pay 60% tax rates for this privilege. But before you get into the emotional argument on the size, scope and implementation of such a disaster, simply tell them there is no legal justification for such a program in the Constitution. If the state of Connecticut, for example, wants to implement a universal health care plan for ITS residents, it is free to do so if the residents want it and put people in office that will give it. But such a ponzi-scheme program should not be lifted at the national level. If then a Connecticut resident doesn't want to participate, then (as Ronald Reagan once said) that person can vote with their feet and leave for another state. But if you force it everyone nationally, where do you go then? The Caribbean?--sounds tempting...
You see, but that's the point of all liberal/socialist policies, it is RARELY about the superficial intention and meaning of the program being forced on you, but rather another way to create a command and control economy run out of Washington that continually eats away at your freedom, choice, and your money. All liberal policies simply are designed to control more and more of your life and give you less and less choice, i.e. liberty. Our Constitution is based on the idea of Federalism, that is the states retain most of the power and decision making for citizens NOT Washington. The federal government exists at the pleasure of the states, NOT the other way around. And we are 180 degrees out of sync on this now. Just think about how much more money you, your town, and your state would have if the bloated, corrupt, inefficient, and evil entity known as the federal budget was reduced only to the few items they are empowered to do according to the Constitution--not what some unelected, unaccountable judge/lawyer has interpreted it as saying but what it ACTUALLY says. Wow, what a concept!!
We are a long way off from ever getting this back, but we must start at the ground level--in our own lives. Educate yourself, do your own research, teach your children, and hold your elected officials accountable! There are plenty of peaceful and lawful means of changing this disaster, but you must be willing to be counted and stand up for what the Founders wanted and what they toiled and died for and the beautiful document they signed in 1787. READ IT, LIVE IT, LOVE IT! If you want specific titles and things you can read, post a message or comment for me here and I will begin compiling some of these sources for you. But start with the Constitution--it will tell you 90% of what you need to know... it is that simple really!
Until next time,

"We must make our choice between economy and liberty or confusion and servitude...If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and comforts, in our labor and in our amusements...if we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy."--Thomas Jefferson

"With respect to the words "general welfare," I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators."

This is my first visit to your blog. Your points are well noted. I am a fellow conservative, and am very distressed at the direction our country is headed. I attended and spoke at the tea party, and am concerned about how we can effectively organize for the next elections. I welcome a chance for further discussions on the issues. Are there any groups meeting periodically (not tea parties per-se)? Keep up the good work.
