UPDATE:
Well thank God and our Navy Seals for helping to free Captain Phillips! I think this turned out great DESPITE Barack Obama, not because of him! He is required as President to act on such things but he should have acted much sooner. And more importantly, what will happen now?? As of today, these "pirates" (or as Al Sharpton calls them "volunteer Somali Coast Guard personnel") have taken 4 more ships in a brazen new wave of hijacking. Will the Obama administration and the leftist Europeans treat this as just a law enforcement issue (as Bill Clinton did when the first World Trade Center bombing took place) or what it should be: a bunch of thug terrorists that need to be wiped out and defeated so they can threaten no one again. But unfortunately, if I were placing a bet at your favorite CT casino, I would have to say the former! We shall see...
It gets real old, real fast pointing out the woefully inadequate protection of American sovereignty and exceptionalism by the Obama administration--last week it was the "America is Sorry" tour Obama did in Europe--calling us arrogant and racist--but I will deal with that another time.
Can you believe in 2009 we are still dealing with pirates of any kind?? Yes, we are and Barack Obama had the wrong response--again. Just as he did with North Korea, his wimpy response ( or non-response) emboldens and encourages more bad behavior.
Given that these "pirates" could possibly have extremist ties and are using the money they get for ransom, to among other things purchase arms and carry out other crimes, why didn't Obama make a stronger stance on this incident? A cargo ship with 20 American passengers on board hijacked for ransom? God bless the captain who did what he was trained to do and duty called him to do by turning himself over to protect the other passengers. That was the right thing to do...But then what should have been the United State's move?
Obama should have called a press conference and spoke directly into the camera and tell these thug criminals (or worse!) that they have 24 hours to turn over the captain unharmed or they will be taken out by the full force of the military--end of story, end of new conference...
But instead, Obama has his news conference on funding people who don't pay their mortgage (in a bid to take over more of the financial sector of our country hidden under the guise of helping struggling Americans) and refuses to even take questions on the pirate incident. Then our esteemed secretary of state goes out and says that we are going to consult with other countries to formulate a plan of action to respond--huh?? What a joke, I am sure those pirates are shaking in their boots now! Maybe the U.N. will issue a resolution condemning them? I am sure THAT will get them to stop kidnapping and murdering.
But once again we will make this a law enforcement issue instead of treating it for what it is, an attack on American sovereignty. Instead, Obama and his cronies cower in a corner like a scared animal hoping it will just go away--or is it just utter disdain and arrogance of the administration? Or total lack of understanding of the greater picture about why even small incidents like this must be dealt with swiftly, harshly, and decisively or you only encourage more. Probably a combination of all the above. If other countries what to actually pay these ransoms, than so be it as that is their prerogative. But we should make a clear statement that this will not be tolerated by the United States- with consequences that actually mean something- so they won't think of trying it again on us.
But as I have I said before, what do you expect from liberals who continue to think that if we just try to be friends with our enemies and all get along, that the evil that exists in the world will just go away. Get your head out of the sand (or other orifice) and stand up for America-please!!
God bless Captain Richard Phillips and his family and pray for his safe return soon!

"We must make our choice between economy and liberty or confusion and servitude...If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and comforts, in our labor and in our amusements...if we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy."--Thomas Jefferson
"America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. "

US diplomat & politician (1767 - 1848)
“Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpation”
-James Madison at the Virginia Ratification Debates
"With respect to the words "general welfare," I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators."
